GUARANGO Film
and Video was founded 13 years ago by Ernesto Cabellos and
Swiss producer Stefan Kaspar to promote the independent production
and distribution of Peruvian film and video. Guarango is a registered
non-profit organization in Peru as well as a member of the Peruvian
Filmmaker's Association.
We operate on a system of self-financing, outside
grants and the Inca trueque system (reciprocal help within Peru's
film and video community). GUARANGO has produced
documentaries for international broadcasters including BBC World
and Discovery Channel. We also produce our own independent fiction
and non-fiction films, including the award-winning documentary Choropampa,
The Price of Gold.
In Peru, we provide audio-visual services for the
local market and support Peruvian art, modern dance and young filmmakers.
Some of our clients are:
- BBC London and WDR-The Right to Hope series
(1995)
- WETV Canada - Against the Wind (1995)
- BBC World - On the way (1996)
- BBC World - Hands On (1998-2000)

GUARANGO is the Television Trust
for the Environment’s (TVE) Video Resource Center (VRC) in
Peru. TVE, an independent, non-profit organization based in England,
acts as a catalyst for the production and distribution of films
on the environment, development, health and human rights issues
(www.tve.org). Through participation in TVE, our films reach a production
and distribution network in nearly 50 countries in Africa, Asia
and Latin America.
