Documentary "The Palpa, The Corner of the Hugs". Digital Video. 52 min. Peru, 2003.

This documentary undertakes a ritual in which old Andeans cultural values appear in the middle of the celebration of rural marriages that occur in the extensive and racially mixed valley of the Mantaro, an important Andean region located 300 kms from Lima, the capital city of Peru.

The Palpa consists of the offering and delivery of economic and affective support that the relatives give to the bride and groom with the purpose to assure and to fortify the future of the new family nucleus.

Directed by Joel_Calero, a screenwriter, cinema critic and teacher at the Catholic University. He also runs the workshop in Audiovisual Language in the Faculty of Science and Communication at the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences (UPC).

Short Film "The Next Summer". 16mm color. 20 min. Peru, 2000.

A young married couple from Lima recalls the last days of a failed relationship, set against the backdrop of a romantic beach-town getaway for the city’s rich and famous. The complicity of an afternoon mixed with an odious night make up the unexpected scenario through which is filtered what some call the recognition of tedium and inertia.

This award-winning short film was directed by Joel Calero, and presented at Lima’s prestigious annual Latin America Film Festival (“Encuentro de Cine”), sponsored by Peru’s Catholic University Cultural Centre.
